Rediscovering Gratitude at 30,000 Feet

Uncategorized Jun 15, 2020

Airline travel is an adventure these days! Cancelled and delayed flights are the name of the game but sometimes we have to be somewhere else! I was feeling a little stressed with all the Covid 19 airport requirements, environments and a fairly full plane, Finally in my window seat.being whisked up to 30,000 feet, I started to look at the world from a new perspective! The sky was beautiful blue with puffy clouds, the shoreline of Lake Michigan was magnificent! I was reminded of one of the mindful exercises that we often do in the workshops I offer. Taking out a sheet of lavender paper and a purple pen (those alone add to my positive outlook!) I began to write a list of gratitudes. My list grew exceedingly long as I rediscovered so many things that I am grateful for in this world. Family and friends, wonderful colleagues who do fantastic work for children and families, blue skies and blue oceans, peaceful settings and flowers, this list goes on! With the tumultuous events in our world...

Preschool Connects With Their Families With a Cheerful Parade!!

childcaredirector.com Apr 06, 2020

Brightening the day of preschool children and their families is always important and especially appreciated now! Preschool director, Sarah and her great team of teachers held a drive-by parade for their families in Chanhassen, MN. Teachers made cheerful signs, brought balloons and cheerful messages to the children they are missing during the Corona Virus closure of their preschool. Sarah reports that families decorated their cars to greet their teachers and that it was such fun that families drove around the block and came by for a second and third cheerful pass by the parade. Teachers and children look forward to being back together for fun learning and this parade has helped keep them connected! Thanks for sharing your team effort!

Important Financial Support for Child Care Businesses in Minnesota

childcaredirector.com Apr 02, 2020

We continue our support for you as you work tirelessly to keep child care and early education available for the families you serve. We are cheering you on for your incredible contributions to families and to your staff teams. We also encourage you, challenging as it is, to make time to renew yourself and spend time with your own families.

To support child care businesses through the current Covid-19 crisis, at least two important funds have been created in Minnesota. The first is authorized by the state of MN and is to be administered by Child Care Aware of MN. The second is funding through the six Initiative Foundations who serve out-state MN and through Think Small serving the metro area. Grants vary due to the type business and families served and are primarily meant to support ongoing operations while childcare businesses stay open to serve families who are continuing to work in essential services, including childcare.
I encourage you to learn more and to access these funds to...

Amazing World Forum Conversation about Confronting the Challenges of the Pandemic

childcaredirector.com Mar 27, 2020

The World Forum on Early Care and Education brought colleagues from sixteen countries together on March 26, 2020 for incredible conversation on ways that early education professionals are making the best of very difficult times! We heard from our colleague in Indonesia whose school is making videos of their songs, stories, art and movement activities to reach out to their families and stay connected through social media and online platforms. We heard from our colleague in China where schools are starting to reopen with concerns that the corona virus could re-emerge as people return home to China. We heard from our colleague in the South Bronx in NYC whose program is closed yet staff are working full time to reach out directly to families with positive mental health and early education strategies. Making this worldwide conversation possible shows us once again the power of the World Forum Foundation bringing early education advocates together in real time to share both...

"I Was Ready to Sit Down and Cry But You All Make Things Better!"

childcaredirector.com Mar 26, 2020

Welcome to the second day of our posts sharing uplifting actions in our field that are helping our colleagues and their communities to get through these challenging times. For context, we were in an online chat for a class in our Directors Credential professional development program. Toward the end of our chat, we were offering messages of support knowing what everyone is facing personally and in their businesses and communities. One of our wonderful directors made such an honest and meaningful statement that I asked her if I could share it with you. Her thoughts truly show the power of connecting online with a peer group and feeling the strength of the group coming through. Even in a typing chat the sense of community is felt so strongly and lifts us all up! Our colleague, whose name happens to be Joy, shared these kind words with all of us "I just want to send out thanks to everyone. I was ready to sit down and cry instead of logging on, but you all make things better!!"
